Sarah is a graduate of Birthingway College with a degree in Midwifery. She is a Certified Professional Midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and a Licensed Direct-Entry Midwife (LDM) in the state of Oregon. She is trained and skilled in adult and infant CPR as well as neonatal resuscitation; suturing, hematology, and pharmacological skills as they pertain to midwifery practices. She has been supporting Oregon families during the childbearing year since 2012, when she completed the DONA International doula training and began attending hospital births and assisting families in the postpartum period. For two years, Sarah trained at a slow-paced, rural home birth practice before she began to attend births in a busy Portland practice. She believes in birth as an opportunity for transformation and healing, and she is grounded in the midwifery model, which focuses on client-centered, holistic, and individualized care.
In addition to midwifery, Sarah is an experienced labor doula and postpartum doula. She is trained in both raw and TCM methods of placenta encapsulation. She is also an experienced herbalist and welcomes client interest in herbal and dietary approaches to treatment and management of complications that may arise during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Sarah speaks Spanish and is committed to increasing access to midwifery services for the families of Oregon. When not doing birth work, she can be found hiking, dancing, or attempting the New York Times Sunday crossword.
